Isola del Garda, also known as Isola di Garda or Isola Borghese, is the largest island on Lake Garda. Located within the municipality of San Felice del Benaco in the province of Brescia, Lombardy, it possesses a rich and diverse history. The island has served various purposes throughout the centuries, including as a Roman burial ground, a refuge for pirates, the site of a Franciscan monastery, a border fortification, and a private residence. Historical figures reportedly visiting the island include Francis of Assisi, Anthony of Padua, and Dante Alighieri. Today, the island is characterized by its parkland and the prominent Venetian neo-Gothic Villa Borghese Cavazza. Although privately owned by the Cavazza family, Isola del Garda has been accessible to the public for guided tours since 2002. Tours, which include a return ferry trip and a guided visit, are available from April to October, with both morning and afternoon slots. Advance booking is required.
