Mercatini di Natale Trento

Descrizione

The Mercatini di Natale of Trento are among the finest Christmas markets in Italy — a cherished Alpine tradition in the Trentino capital that transforms Piazza Fiera, Piazza Cesare Battisti, and the surrounding historic streets into a luminous winter market from late November through to Epiphany (January 6th). The Trentino Christmas market tradition reflects the region's German-speaking heritage and cultural links to Austrian Tyrol; the craftsmanship, food, and decorative traditions draw on this rich Alpine cultural identity. Stalls sell hand-carved wooden ornaments, Alpine cheeses and speck, panettone, strauben (fried dough spirals), and the distinctive Trentino torcolo (ring-shaped baked sweet). The market is illuminated spectacularly after dark; the backdrop of the medieval Castello del Buonconsiglio and the cathedral's Romanesque façade makes the setting exceptional. Open daily; free entry.
