Traditional summer race between “bisse”, Venetian-style boats which compete for the Bandiera del Lago (Flag of the Lake) prize. It represents the largest rowing and folk event of Lake Garda. The word “bissa” refers to the Venetian rowing boat brought to Garda during Venetian rule in 1426. The boat’s structure has not changed much throughout the centuries, with every “bissa” composed of a long, flat hull. From June to August, all the Lake Garda sports groups will compete to win one of the most desirable prizes of the year – the Lake Flag. To top off this fantastic event, spectators will be treated to a pyrotechnics show. There are several qualifying races in July, while in August is held the final challenge in Sirmione: the award consists of an old flag that is handed down from one town to another since many years.
